Description
Since the head and cylinder block are not rigid bodies, the surface pressure applied is not uniform across the entire surface when the head bolts are tightened. Furthermore, the circumstances are constantly changing and the contact surface is continuously being pounded because of combustion pressure and vibration while driving. To maintain a tight seal with adequate pressure, a good gasket must therefore make sure that contact surface pressure is distributed as evenly as possible and also respond rapidly to any ever-changing gaps that may occur in the contact surface.
